Paint First; then Draw!

February 10, 2018 @ 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Woodburn Art Center

Usually a watercolorist spends a good amount of time planning and drawing their composition, creating a value study, and then adding color to the shapes in the composition. Join Watercolorist and Mixed Media Artist, Sharla Sevy, to learn this quick paint techniques that is quite “freeing” using watercolor and pen and ink!  We begin by applying color randomly with our brush or by pouring paint on.  Using a triad of colors sets a harmonious stage.  The trick is to have no preconceived notion of what you would like to paint…let the results speak to you.  The basics of this technique can easily be applied to sketchbook and travel journaling.  The process allows one to quickly capture the color and feel of a fleeting moment and then use pen and ink to record the subject matter.  Class will be held on Saturday, February 10, from 9:30 AM-3:30 PM at a cost of $60 with most supplies provided.  Bring your own palette and brushes and a snack.  Participants can plan on starting four 5×7 or 6×8 projects and completing anywhere from one to four of them during class.  (At least 5 students are required to hold the class.)  Register today!
