Paint First, then Draw!

Usually a watercolorist spends a good amount of time planning and drawing their composition creating a value study then adding color to shapes in the composition.  Join Watercolorist and Mixed Media Artist Sharla Sevy to learn this quick paint technique that is quite “freeing” using watercolor, pen & ink.

We begin by applying color randomly with our brush or by pouring paint on. Using a triad of color sets a harmonious stage allowing random results to be beautiful.

The trick is to have no preconceived notion of what you would like to paint, let the restult speak to you.

The basics of this technique can easily be applied to sketchbook and travel journaling. The process allows one to quickly capture the color and feel of a fleeting moment and then defining the subject with pen & ink.

Class will be held on Saturday, Sept 23 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at a cost of $60 with most supplies provided. Bring your own palette and brushes as well as a snack to get you though the day.

Participants can plan on starting four 5×7 or 6×8 projects and completing anywhere from one to all four.

Minimum of 4 students needed.
