Why paint on panels?
You will not have to frame your work. Spray an acrylic, mat finish, UV protected coat to protect your painting. Put a wire on the back and you are finished.
Panels are easy to prepare for watercolors.
Panels are easy to find and very affordable. They come in several different thicknesses and sizes.
Make a mistake or want to try a different idea, wipe your paint off and start again.
You will love the textures you can produce with the gesso and watercolor mediums.
Class description:
In this two day class I will teach you how to prime birch wood panels to paint watercolors on. First I will send you a short tutorial on how to prime a 12” x 12” birch panel to prepare for the class with gesso. You will bring this primed panel to class. It will take a day to dry so it is important to have it primed before class, one day ahead of time.
Day one: You will coat your primed panel, you bring to class, with a watercolor medium and we will let it dry. Takes about one hour to dry. While drying, I will demonstrate how I coat my panels with acrylic gesso and then coat my panels with watercolor medium. Everyone will get a complimentary 12” x 12” panel to prepare in class. When finished, we will set them out to dry.
Next, we will trace our drawing of a chickadee, that I provide, (using Saral tracing paper) onto the board you bring to class and I will demonstrate how to begin to paint it.
We will have lunch at 12:00 and then continue painting until 4:00.
Day two: You will be able to put Watercolor medium on your second panel and set it out to dry. Continue painting on your first panel. If you finish your bird during the day, you can always start a second painting. Maybe bring a drawing to trace on.

16 oz. Works fine and a gallon will last a long time.
4. 12” x 12” birch panel. The depth of panel is up to you. You can buy just one panel at Hobby Lobby for $6.99 . You can buy a package of 4 at Dick Blick for $28.34.
These prices are just estimates and to give you an idea of costs.
Paint-I use M Graham paints. They are made locally in Hubbard, Or. I think almost all of the art supply stores sell them. The colors I am using in this painting are: Cerulean Blue,Quin Rust, Quin Gold, Ultra Marine Blue, Cobalt teal, Nickelacridone, Azo Yellow. Please note that these are the colors I enjoy using, feel free to use your own brands of paint and color scheme.
