Watercolor Artist

I get lost in Oregon nature; it just takes my breath away! By painting from my own photos, I am able to get into every crevice and nuance and let my memory of the time and space take over.

Oils Artist

I am a college trained illustrator (1970’s) that chose not to try to make a living with my art- Instead I used my skills for my own leisure.

I retired at 63 and now paint full time. I’m a car guy and pop culture nut so my art reflects that. Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein have been very influential.

Oils and Acrylic Artist

Originally a traditional studio artist, I took many workshops and lessons beginning in the late 60’s.  After graduating from the University of Oregon with degrees from the School Of Architecture And Allied Arts, and College of Education, Post Impressionism studies sparked a shift in my focus.  I enjoy pushing the boundary of realism into the world of Impressionistic whimsy with oil and acrylic.  Using only images of original artwork since 1970, I  also make and sell sublimation mugs and marble coaster/art tiles. All my paintings are original in concept and design.  The subjects include my European travel and plein air locations with bold contrast and intense color.  I enjoy playing with surface texture using a pallet knife, Q-Tips,  and large brushes, building layers of color and diffused light.  Painting en plein air can be daunting, however I like pushing through the challenges. I mix it up by balancing plein air with studio work, switching between oil and acrylic, playing with new techniques to stay excited and fresh.   Oil and acrylic are my preferred mediums and I sometimes texturize the canvas or board with modeling paste for plein air landscapes, occasionally adding oil-thickening gels.  It’s fun playing with surface texture, using a variety of tools to build layers of color and diffused light.
