Meet our Artists

Connie Abell
Watercolor Artist
I get lost in Oregon nature; it just takes my breath away! By painting from my own photos, I am able to get into every crevice and nuance and let my memory of the time and space take over.

Steve Veltman
Oils Artist
I am a college trained illustrator (1970’s) that chose not to try to make a living with my art- Instead I used my skills for my own leisure.
I retired at 63 and now paint full time. I’m a car guy and pop culture nut so my art reflects that. Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein have been very influential.

Jim Nicolarsen
Oil on Canvas & Amateur Photographer
My interest in painting was first piqued watching my mother learn to paint as a young boy.
Some 30 years later, it was again sparked by three landscape acrylic ‘kits’ given to me by a neighbor, which I quickly finished and still have.
A degree in, and love of Geology, has given me a keen eye for the textures and dimensions in Nature. Pick up a fossilized piece of ancient wood or an amazing mineral and you can’t help but see the complexities, the processes involved and the wonder of Nature.
My fascination and love of photography has only enhanced my hiking and backpacking to some amazing places like Glacier National Park, Mt. Rainier and The Grand Canyon to name a few.
My avid travels to Europe, New Zealand, Alaska and recently Iceland add to my overall appreciation for the colors, diversity and beauty that surround us.
Other artistic interests include leatherwork, mostly Native American crafts such as medicine bags, quivers and breastplates. And I do travel with a small watercolor kit for quiet moments with scenes of mountains, lakes and waterfalls for which I seem to gravitate.

Gail Woodard
Watercolor, Acrylic, Mixed Media Artist
Growing up in Portland and Salem Oregon I was drawn to the outdoors. Our family went hiking, camping, and to the beach a lot. Always interested in art, I took painting, drawing and pottery classes in college.
When traveling I take a watercolor pan and brush so I can do quick paintings to review later. Living in the Willamette Valley is a great place to be inspired. I have shown my work in many different venues in both Washington and Oregon. My primary medium is Acrylic, then watercolor.
I have fun experimenting with collage. I’m always inspired by coming to the Wooburn Art Center. Working and sharing with other artists is always a joy.
